Google said the Nexus Q isn’t completely dead, so the recent report from the Wall Street Journal is not completely absurd. According to this article, Google could be working on an Android-powered gaming console in response to the iPlay rumors. It would therefore not be utter nonsense to see a Google console with the announcement of Android 5.0, why not a console integrated in the next Nexus Q.
End of gaming gurus
We live in the modern world of gaming gurus, and this amazing trend was immediately picked by massive industries as well. Despite the fact that both Sony and Microsoft have managed to remain on top with their acclaimed Xbox and PlayStation consoles, it doesn’t mean that they will rule the gaming market forever. Technological advances will never stop, so they will constantly have to fight to stay on top.
The famous Google and the praised Apple corporations are two of their newest competitors. Apple was willing to announce its support for game controllers that are dedicated for all its idevices, and Google is constantly working on a brand new gaming console that will operate on the Android OS. This alarming trend of major companies to develop consoles is just meant to alarm the gaming industry and create a lot of buzz.
Thus far, Microsoft and Sony are not considering that Apple and Google are that threatening so they’re not taking them too seriously. This is because the two pioneering gaming companies are preparing something that will push future Google consoles off the age. Although major companies have nothing to worry about, smaller operators such as Gamestick, Ouya, and Gamepop, should be a bit preoccupied that Google might just surpass them.
Google is currently trying to hit the gaming industry straight to the core: its mobile gaming niche. Compared with dedicated console games, these titles are rather small and they take a whole different sphere without having to sound threatening. Technology is meant to advance, so we should expect major changes in the near future. Games are becoming increasingly better, and they’re a lot more mature than they used to be 5 years ago.
There’s enough room for all kinds of games because people have different requirements. However, when controllers will become just as common as laptops and computers, it will probably be extremely hard to rely on dedicated game controllers. While Google is not taken seriously by the gaming industry, the matter is rather understandable because games based on consoles are not that many; Android on the other side, is widely used by millions of people.
Futur and cloud gaming
In the future, if customers will get from Google something new and affordable like a whole different device and gaming experience, they will probably give up their Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Maybe it will not happen any time soon, but in the end the release of a non-traditional console will eventually happen. Both Xbox one and PS4 are already known for developers, so it won’t take long until they come up with a better, more ingenious Google console.
Furthermore, cloud technology will slowly but surely start to show off its real potential. It will most likely be employed to stream full game versions such as ‘Call of Duty’, which once belonged exclusively to consoles. If console games will eventually turn into mobile games, the future of both Sony and PlayStation won’t be that bright anymore.
Thus far, the above mentioned allegations are just theoretical. Still, this doesn’t mean they can’t become reality someday.
The entire gaming industry has acknowledged that the scenery is changing, and that they need to stay updated with the latest improvements in order to stay on top. While they’re don’t have nothing to fear at the moment, in the near future they might be taken down by companies they least expect to act against them. Only time will tell what will really happen with the gaming industry, and although Google is not being taken too seriously, who knows what they have prepared for Microsoft and Xbox.
